The Scarsdale Youth Soccer Club is a non-profit organization administered by Scarsdale parents. The Club selects, organizes and regulates boys and girls’ soccer teams to play in travel soccer leagues and tournaments, and selects the coaches of such teams. The Club also works closely with the Scarsdale Recreation Department.
For 2012-2013, the club will field more than 30 youth soccer teams which are roughly divided equally between girls and boys' teams. These teams are registered in thee Westchester Youth Soccer League ("WYSL").The WYSL is a league that is part of both the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association and the United States Youth Soccer Association ("USYSA")
OBJECTIVES AND PHILOSOPHY
The Club's objectives are to provide children with the opportunity to participate in a travel soccer experience where they can develop positive self-esteem and build character by learning the virtues of hard work, respect, honesty, self-control, teamwork and sportsmanship. In 2002, the Positive Coaching Alliance, a Stanford University-based educational organization that works with youth sports organizations around the country to create a positive environment for young athletes, announced that the SYSC was one of the initial winners of its National Awards for youth sports organizations that promote and exemplify the principles of positive coaching.
