Maximum Ages for Each Division: The league age groups are based on the seasonal year rather than birth year or grades. That is, each group has a maximum age as of August 1 of a given year. If your child is older than the maximum age for a particular age group, the league will not allow us to register them for that age group regardless of grade. We have no discretion to waive this rule. Age group maximums mandated by the league are as follows:
U- 8 teams children born after July 31, 2005
U-9 teams - children born after July 31, 2004
U-10 Teams - children born after July 31, 2003
U-11 Teams - children born after July 31, 2002
U-12 Teams - children born after July 31, 2001
U-13 Teams - children born after July 31, 2000
U-14 Teams - children born after July 31, 1999
Playing "up" to your grade/playing "down" to your age group: As discussed in the tryouts description, we encourage all children to play with their league age group. However, children in grades 2 and up that are on the young end of a given grade, i.e. those born between July 31 and the end of a given year are allowed to "play up" (to play with their grade) under the league and club rules without any special permission. A child who wishes to "play down" to a lower grade because they are born after July 31 of the applicable year may do so. If you want your child to play with their age group you may pre-register for their "age group" even if your child has previously played "up" to their grade. If you want your child to tryout for his age group and his grade group and decide which option he or she prefers you may do so as well. Just email the registrar so we can make sure the tryout personnel are aware and they will get in touch with you following tryouts to discuss which division makes sense for your child.
Playing "up" to a more competitive team: Very strong players who wish to try out for an age group older than their grade need to contact the AGC's for both grades to obtain permission to try out to play up. Children should attend their own grade's tryout the first week of tryouts and will invited to attend the older grade's tryout week 2 upon UKElite's confirmation that it is appropriate. In the case of incoming U-8 or U-9 players who wish to try out for U10 permission must be sought from the Director of Training and next Fall U10 AGC before Tryouts.
