Remake Sure. Go ahead. Whatever.
Studios will spare no existing property, no matter how sacred fans consider it.
That said, we know "Point Break" ranks low on the list of films we'd consider sacred, but come on.
I guess it wasn't enough when "Fast and the Furious" remade it in 2001. Although now I'm sure the "Fast and the Furious" franchise will get remakes as soon as Vin Diesel's run finishes.
But sadly, will get a reboot in the near future from the company Alcon, . It is scheduled to open in July 2015.
Of course, "Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow's bodacious 1991 effort tells the gnarly story of an FBI agent who goes undercover to catch a gang of bank robbers who may be surfers (and sky-divers). Was it kind of dumb? Of course. But was it kind of awesome, too? Absolutely.
"300" and "Olympus Has Fallen" star Gerard Butler will play Bodhi (previously played by the late Patrick Swayze) while "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" star Luke Bracey will play Johnny Utah (previously played by the legendary Keanu Reeves). Variety says that "The Departed" and "Noah" actor Ray Winstone will reprise Gary Busey's role as Utah's veteran partner.
Longtime cinematographer Ericson Core (who made "Invincible") will direct.
As we know, everything we love and hate on celluloid will get remade, rebooted or repeated in some form or fashion at any point. We can only hope and pray the filmmakers do the source material justice or, at the very least, make a decent movie.
After Sylvester Stallone's dreadful "Judge Dredd," the mistake needed correcting, and we got the downright bad-A "Dredd" in 2012. We've seen as many "Godzilla" movies as we probably need to in our lifetime, but here comes what could beat them all in May. So they're not all misfires. The batting average could be better, or nonexistent if they just made original movies again, but let's hope this one doesn't wipe out.
