- It is official, Something Sweet Bake Shop now holds the Guinness World Record for the world s largest brownie.
The new record was announced in a news release from the Bay Area Food Bank; the official announcement of the record will be made at a news conference outside the bake shop in Daphne at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8.
The record-breaking brownie weighed in at a whopping 234.2 pounds. It shattered the old record of 220.437 pounds.
The entry was submitted to the folks at Guinness and after months of certification, the results are in and the bake shop now holds the record. The tiny bakery in the heart of Olde Daphne set out to break the old record last September as a way of saying thank you to its customers for five years of operation.
The brownie was put together and baked in a specially built oven in Theodore, Ala. It was baked in the shop of Bolttech Mannings, a firm that makes specialty heating mechanisms for industrial applications.
The brownie was baked in a custom made stainless steel pan that was made by Fulton Haley Metal Products of Bay Minette. A team of judges and witnesses were on hand to verify that the bakers followed the strict guidelines set down by the Guinness folks.
After it was baked, weighed, cooled and documented, the massive confection was cut into chunks and sold for each. Proceeds totaling ,375 benefited the Bay Area Food Bank.
Something Special Bake Shop is owned by Joan Scott and Gayle Hohman. We knew we wanted to do something big as a way to celebrate our anniversary and bring awareness to the issue of hunger in our community, said Scott.
