A 57-year man was killed Monday morning after he turned into the path of a box truck in Cobb County, police said.
The wreck happened shortly after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Sandy Plains Road and Wigley Road near Marietta, according to Cobb County police.
Investigators said Mr. Kevin Palmer was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound on Sandy Plains Road when he attempted to turn left onto Wigley Road.
He had the green light, but for some unknown reason, pulled into the path of a brown 2013 International box truck that was southbound on Sandy Plains Road, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
“After striking the Honda on the passenger side door, the box truck and the Honda redirected to the southwest corner of the intersection where the box truck struck a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado truck,” Sgt. Pierce said.
The box truck then continued on into the grass before it came to a stop after striking an automatic traffic intersection control box, Sgt. Pierce said.
Mr. Palmer, of Marietta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sergeant said.
The 38-year-old driver of the Freightliner box truck, Mr. Philippe Pilon of Alpharetta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The 63-year-old driver of the Chevrolet, Mr. Frank Langley, of Acworth, was not injured.
Police said no charges are expected to be filed in the wreck.
