The Rev. Kelly Clem, the pastor who emerged bruised and battered after a tornadodestroyed her church during a worship service on Palm Sunday in 1994, has been named a district superintendent for the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church.

She will oversee the Northwest District.

Clem, currently pastor of Holmes Street United Methodist Church in Huntsville, will take her new assignment in June. Mrs. Clem emerged from the wreckage of the Goshen United Methodist Church in Piedmont after a tornado destroyed it on March 27, 1994, killing 20 people, including her daughter, 4-year-old Hannah.

Clem. She served as pastor of Goshen United Methodist Church from 1992-96, Southside United Methodist Church in Gadsden from 1997-2000 and as a missionary to Lithuania.

Her husband, the Rev. Dale Clem, is currently pastor of Monte Sano United Methodist Church in Huntsville.

Clem was among aby North Alabama Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett. The appointments take effect in June. Here is a listing of new appointments, with the name of the church and the minister assigned there.
