Uniforms are replaced every two years. The primary reason is that the club gets a two year commitment from a supplier to supply the uniforms. Maroon is not a widely used color, and therefore, the uniforms are often discontinued. You might be able to find a uniform for purchase on the internet, but outfitting 150-200 new players in uniforms of varying sizes becomes a problem. Therefore, the club commits to the same standard as our suppliers commit to us, which is two years.
Usually after two years, most parents order new uniforms for their children anyway. As parents, you can usually order a uniform that is a little big, and make it work for 2 years. However, making the same size work for 3 years is much harder.
Uniform numbers are assigned by the club and players may be renumbered every two years.
Players order the basic uniform through the registration system. The cost of the basic uniform is covered within the registration fee.
If you want to order additional uniform components OR backpacks, duffels, warmup pants or jackets, the Scarsdale Soccer jacket or other items, please download this form, fill it in, and return it to your coach or designated team manager. SYSC Uniform Order Form 2008 July.xls . DO NOT RETURN THIS FORM TO SCARSDALE SPORTS. They can only accommodate team-batched orders.
Scarsdale Sports will then take additional team orders (again, from TEAM MANAGERS ONLY) for team accessory items every two weeks with the following due dates: August 1, August 15th, August 30th, and September 15th --- with delivery approximately 4 weeks from receipt (depending on availability). If you have additional questions, please email the uniform committee at uniforms@scarsdalesoccer.org .
Our supplier is Scarsdale Sports (69 Harney Road, 472-6900, owner and operator Michael Planit).
The club recently (Spring 2008) conducted a survey of every team in every age group to record the jersey number worn by each player. There was a very high number of duplicate jersey numbers within each age group.
Individual players had purchased new uniforms on their own or borrowed uniforms from older siblings, so there's some understanding of how this could happen. However, there were also cases where entire teams somehow re-numbered their uniforms.
The problem of duplicate numbers is evident when players move to different teams and on a larger scale, when teams combine. For the fall, the Girls U12 age group consolidated from four teams to three teams. The Boys U13 age group consolidated from three teams to two teams. In both of these cases, there were too many players with the same uniform numbers. Re-numbering every player in every age group was the only solution.
For the upcoming season, each coach will receive new uniforms for their team in an assortment of uniform numbers. The coach will distribute uniforms to each player.
As coaches and parents, please encourage your child to accept their new number and move on. We can be good role models for our children by retaining a positive attitude about this turn of events.
